President - Brian Melven

Brian Melven is a learning experience designer and design thinking practitioner. He has been designing learning experiences for Fortune 500 companies around the world for over 15 years. Brian designs and develops instructor-led training (ILT), elearning, mLearning, virtual ILT, and performance support solutions. Brian’s passion is helping clients tell their story visually. He has a Master’s degree in Instructional Technology and Learning Science from Utah State University.

Brian has presented at ATD’s International Conference and Exposition and various other conferences around the country.

President Elect - John Wright

John served as VP of Programs in 2006 - 2007, President Elect in 2008, President in 2009 and currently serves on the Past President's Advisory Council.

John is President of Simple Leadership Strategies®, a management training and consulting firm based in Fort Worth that specializes in leadership development, team building, employee engagement and customer retention.

Having spent over thirty years studying, experimenting, developing and practicing some simple strategies that help organizations create leaders at every level, John is convinced that the world needs a transformation, and that organizations - both profit and non-profit - can play a far bigger role in helping society achieve its potential.

VP of Membership - Jonathan Silk

 Jonathan is an experienced leader and coach with a proven record of leading and developing others to perform at higher levels and improve their overall effectiveness. He is the founder and President of Bridge 3 Solutions which provides organizational and leader development services for organizations looking to align purpose, values, and performance. He brings lessons from his military service and previous roles in leader and talent development.  His previous experiences include serving as the Executive Director of Leader Development at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) where he oversaw the leader development and design thinking programs for faculty, staff, and students. Jonathan served as Assistant Professor in the Center for Advancement of Leader Development & Organizational Learning at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY before transitioning from the Army in 2015. He is a decorated Veteran and established a record of high performance leading a variety of units in complex, volatile, and dynamic environments as a U.S. Army officer. His combat experience includes serving as a Combat Advisor to the Afghan National Police in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and as a Cavalry Scout Platoon Leader during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies with a focus in business administration from Louisiana State University (Alexandria), an MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas, and an M.A. in Learning Technologies from Pepperdine University. He has completed both the External Executive Coaching residency program and the Advanced External Executive Coaching program at Columbia University. Jonathan is a design thinker and attended the Design Thinking executive course at the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design located at Stanford University.

VP of Communications - Susan Wines

Susan Wines, eLearning Specialist at Thomson Reuters’ Tax and Accounting Division, is experienced in all phases of creating eLearning courses. Thomson Reuters creates 100s of eLearning courses for accountants. Courses include webinars, seminars, online, download, CD, 508 compliant, and mobile. Susan finds authors (subject matter experts), applies instructional design principles to course content, improves courseware processes, trains internal teams worldwide in authoring tools, troubleshoots, publishes, and also engages in social media representing the company’s brand. This year Susan will tell you that she was lucky enough to be accepted as an author, Branding Your Firm with LinkedIn ( Susan is also a thought leader for Harbinger Corporation for their eLearning authoring tool Raptivity. In her private life, Susan is a closet poet, an animal lover, and a really bad singer who lives with an opinionated beagle, Mr. Sox.
VP of Events - Cynthia Alderman

Cynthia (Cindy) Alderman has been a Senior Technical Editor/Instructional Designer-CPE for the Thomson Reuters Business Compliance and Knowledge Solutions team since 2008. Cindy is also a thought leader for Harbinger’s Raptivity product (Raptivity is a robust set of interactivities for online learning). She earned her BBA in Accounting degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. Her 30 years of professional accounting experience includes twelve years for two small local CPA firms in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area; seven years in controller positions for several small privately-owned businesses in Dallas, Texas; five years as manager of financial and SEC reporting responsibilities for a small closely-held company in Dallas, Texas; and eight years as manager of financial and SEC reporting responsibilities for a large public filer in Fort Worth, Texas.
VP of Finance - Carlene Coover

Carlene Coover, a Technical Trainer at Texas Christian University, has worked for over 20 years helping faculty and staff learn software applications such as Microsoft Office and PeopleSoft/Oracle. Carlene recently joined ATD and has been very impressed with all of the resources available to ATD members. She hopes to become CPLP certified in the future. Carlene earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Montana and an MBA from TCU. Her favorite classes to teach are Access and Advanced Excel.
VP of Programs - Gary Sidoti

In 1978 as a US Marine I learned the trade of Electronics. In 1982 I used these skills as a Component Engineer, Buyer Planner to develop a streamlined materials management and purchasing system. In 1992 I moved into the world of Electronic Component Sales developing over $1,000,000 [back then that was a lot] in new business. In 2011 I moved from Connecticut to re-open the training department at TTI in Fort Worth.

Today, as veteran TTI employee with over thirty years of experience in the Electronics field my passion is to help others achieve their very best potential through teaching, training, coaching and mentoring. With many hats to wear I lead the talent development of our sales teams by creating eLearning, Webinars, classroom instruction and leadership training. Through ATD I can explore my ambition to learn more about talent development and to become part of an organization that focuses on this craft. By Serving as a volunteer and a board member, I have the opportunity to give part of what I have to others so that they may benefit as I am.

Director of Programs - Tod Willoughby

Tod currently serves as the AVP of Talent Strategy at General Motors Financial in Fort Worth, Texas. He and his team partner directly with business leaders consultatively to create talent management and development initiatives to drive retention and leadership readiness across the company’s employee base of 9,000 people.

Tod retired from the U.S. Army in 2013 after a 22-year military career, where his last assignment was on the leadership development faculty at the U.S. Military Academy (West Point). He and his family relocated to Dallas Fort Worth in 2013, where he became the Director of Leadership Development and Training at Dr Pepper Snapple Group, driving programs and strategies that changed the leadership culture of the company.

Tod joined the Army out of high school, becoming a sergeant leading small teams. He was then selected to complete officer training, ultimately being promoted to Major. As an officer, he led teams at both tactical and strategic levels while deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. His team of more than 120 soldiers provided logistics and support operations in southeastern Afghanistan in 2008, which contributed to some of the first democratic elections in the nation of Afghanistan. 

Tod was awarded two Bronze Star medals for his leadership during combat operations. Most importantly to him, all his team members safely returned from their missions.

Tod holds a bachelor’s degree from Park University and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Psychology and Leadership from Columbia University. He and his wife, Cheri live in Aledo, Texas, and have three children, Tanner, Savana and Kaylin.

Director of Registration - Kim Kozak

Kim Kozak is a Human Capital Management expert specializing in the areas of enterprise-wide Talent data model architecture.  She has been consulting with mid-sized to Fortune 500 companies for almost 10 years, in every aspect of internal Talent Development.

Kim's career arc from HR to technology enables her to help customers of Workday ensure their HR operations, support model, organizational design and system architecture are all aligned to enable smooth change management.  She has a penchant for transformational system adoption.

She holds a Strategic Workforce Planner certification from the Human Capital Institute, and has obtained 7 certifications in the Workday suite of modules. She carries a SHRM-SCP and has obtained an SPHR and certification in Integrated Disability & Absence Management.  Her, and her husband's undergraduate degrees are in Spanish and French.

I have worked in the Learning & Development field since 1994, and as an instructional designer since 2000. I have been employed at Abbott Laboratories since 1986.

I am experienced in performance/needs analysis and I design instructor-led courses, e-Learning courses, and structured on-the-job training. I am also a veteran classroom facilitator/instructor.

I have been certified by Langevin Learning Services as a Training Manager/Director. To achieve this certification, I successfully mastered subjects that included Make Your Training Stick, Successful Training Manager, Project Management for Trainers, Marketing your Training Internally and Training Needs Analysis.

I have attended ATD International Conferences since 1995 and credit that attendance to my staying abreast of learning trends, and learning new techniques and methods for the training function.

My overall goal is to leverage learning to create a high-performing organization that moves our business forward.
