Develop Your Own Talent at our 2020 SIGs
What is a SIG anyway?
Wikipedia defines SIG in this way.
A Special Interest Group (SIG) is a community within a larger organization with a shared interest in advancing a specific area of knowledge, learning or technology where members cooperate to affect or to produce solutions within their particular field, and may communicate, meet, and organize conferences.
The term was used in 1961 by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), an academic and professional computer society. SIG was later popularized on CompuServe, an early online service provider, where SIGs were a section of the service devoted to interests.
How will ATD Fort Worth/Mid-Cities Chapter facilitate your SIG?
Your ATD Board team has come up with four SIGs based on your input. A survey went out to the chapter and chapter guests earlier this year. Of all the topics listed, the four with the highest ranking are:
- Leadership Development
- Leading & Developing Teams
- Instructional Design
- Learning Technologies
These groups will be facilitated by board member volunteers, which are posted on our ATD website.
What do I need to do?
Sign up, show up and participate. These SIG meetings will be held at the same Diamond Oaks location as our chapter meetings. Sign up for the chapter meeting and show up 30 minutes early. You will meet with others that have the same interest as you in one of the specific topics. The intent is for us to share ideas, concepts, best practices, challenges, opportunities about a focused topic such as Leadership Development. Once your SIG meeting is over, you can stay for the full chapter meeting event scheduled.
What do I need to bring?
We suggest bringing something to take notes with (like a notebook or a digital device). Some of the SIGs will inherently lean toward the use of a laptop or tablet, but it is completely up to you what you want to bring. Most importantly, bring your curiosity and openness to learn and share during the session.
What’s in it for me?
We want to bring value to your personal and professional journey. You and your chapter co-members have a wealth of knowledge, experience, ideas and passion about these topics. What a perfect stage to grow both personally and professionally. Each SIG lead is there to facilitate the session and guide the discussion based on the topic. This is an interactive session and everyone is encouraged to participate.
What if I want to attend more than one?
Great! We LOVE that you want to be involved, connect and share. You can attend only one per meeting as the SIGs will be happening simultaneously. If more than one pique your interest, try out a different SIG each month and be sure to give your facilitator feedback on what you liked best about the session. Please let us know what you think about our new SIG format by reaching out to any of the board members.
