Program Summary

7-Eleven established its roots right here in Dallas back in 1927. Since then, 7-Eleven has grown to 55,000+ locations in 16 countries around the globe. 7-Excel University is the team that is responsible for the development, delivery, and tracking of learning across the United States and Canada. This panel discussion will allow participants to hear form leaders in 7-Excel University about the structure of the organization and how they align to support the brand. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions a variety of 7-Excel University team members including classroom trainers, Field Training Specialists, LMS administrators, and instructional designers.

Rob Zell, SPHR


Rob is currently the Manager of Training Delivery, responsible for the delivery of training based in the Store Support Center. This includes the onboarding of new franchisees and the development of our field teams. Rob is also responsible for leadership development across the organization. He has been in the field of learning and development for 23 years. He earned a Masters of Education from the University of Georgia. After teaching high school for 6 years, he switched careers supporting corporate learning in retail and restaurant organizations. Rob has held roles in design, development, and delivery of operations training and leadership development.

John McFadden


John is currently the Field Training Manager, responsible for training new corporate employees and new franchisees across the US and Canada. Prior to leading the Field Training team, John was in operations as a Market Manager in Dallas and Miami; he has been with 7-Eleven for five years. Prior to 7-Eleven, John worked at Starbucks and ExxonMobil in operations, merchandising, fuels, and accounting. John graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a BBA and has an MBA from Emory University. Although John is not as animated and entertaining as Rob, he promises that he will try not to put you to sleep.

Rick Palmer


Rick is currently the Learning Design and Development Manager, responsible for the development of training content for store and field teams. He also oversees development of training solutions for enterprise initiatives. Over the past 20 years, he has held leadership roles in training, operations, quality assurance, and human resources. He has consistently demonstrated success in the retail, education, insurance, hospitality, financial services and healthcare industries. He received BA in Psychology and MA in Speech Communication from Southwest Texas State University. He has also held leadership roles in the Fort Worth/Mid-Cities ATD Chapter including President and VP of Technology.

Special Instructions:

For Parking: North side of the building in Visitor. The should enter through the main entrance of the building (not through the store). Upon checking in with security, there will be someone to escort you to the meeting area.
