Bringing Stories Center Stage in Training

Thursday, January 4, 2017

Speaker: Rance Greene

Program Summary:

Stories in teaching have been with us for time immemorial. But despite the accolades stories receive from talent development pros, we don’t receive much instruction on how to write stories so that they actually connect the learner to the actions we’re asking them to perform. Find out how Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) uses a simple story design model to deliver live, virtual and computer-based compliance training.

  • Receive creative and practical help in designing your own stories for training using the Story Design model
  • Leave with a handout that explains every tool used to create the story examples you experience during the session

Be prepared to share your own expertise. It’s going to be a lively meeting! Get a head start on the session. Visit Rance’s blog post—Building a Case for Stories In Learning—for some great resources on why stories work so well in training. Check out the comments too, which contain even more resources: articles, posts and videos.

About Rance:

Rance Greene spends a great deal of time designing stories at HCSC. And in all of that story-writing and instructional design, he has discovered one thing that always rings true: everybody loves a good story. Learning retention increases. Instant buy-in is gained. And so, his quest to equip more people to tell good stories that connect concretely to learning goes on. His Master Class Series, Story Design, gives learning professionals the tools to discover, design and deliver stories. His signature balance of theory and practice will leave you feeling inspired and empowered.
