Program Title: “Release your Inner Artist and Create Amazing Courses Fast”
Program Summary:
Ultimately, we want raving fans of our work and the way we do that is to create effective, engaging learning for our employees. Today, instructional designers are tasked with developing great courses with limited time and resources. But how do we create amazing courses that result in raving fans, with limited time and resources?
Attend the May SIG meeting and you will learn how to release your inner artist and create amazing courses fast.
In this course, you’ll learn:
- The importance of needs analysis and how to perform them
- How to listen to your RAS (reticular activating system)
- About an organic learning method
- Tips for adding interactivity and boosting engagement
- The benefits of microlearning.
About the Presenter:
Steve is a 24-year veteran in the instructional design field. In his first month working for Abbott Laboratories’ Training Department, Steve designed his first course and delivered it. From that moment on, instructional design became his real passion and calling. Steve is experienced in performance/needs analysis, designing instructor-led courses, e-Learning courses, and structured on-the- job training. For classroom courses, Steve uses the reliable PowerPoint platform. For e-Learning development, he uses Articulate Storyline, which allows flexibility in how e-Learning products are structured. Steve is also a veteran classroom facilitator/instructor. “I love seeing those AH-HA moments from learners.” Steve’s instructional design model is an organic version of the venerable ADDIE model.
Steve believes instructional design is a mix of technical expertise and art, and his work is a balance of the two. “My development philosophy, as a musician might say is, ‘Courses tell me what they want to be." Steve continues to stretch creative boundaries in an institutional environment. “With every course that I develop, I try to disrupt learners’ routine; give them something they don’t expect. Not pointless disruption, but rather Disruption with Purpose.”
